Visualising and Reciting Poetry

Year 4 have been reading, performing and writing poems based on poems written by the poet Kit Wright. During our poetry unit, we looked at poetic devices, poetic structure and what makes good performances. As an introduction into our unit, we were given Kit Wright’s poem Charlotte’s Dog cut up into separate stanzas. In our groups, we had to read each stanza and re-construct the poem considering and discussing which stanza would go where. We then illustrated one stanza of the poem each and created a poster to help us visualise and memorise the poem. We then performed the poem as a group back to the whole class.
