Dissecting Flowers!

This week, we started a new topic in STEM: life cycles. We kicked off the topic by getting to grips with the different ways that plants can reproduce. First we looked closely at some tulips and had an interesting discussion about what we already knew. Was it alive? How does it grow? What does it need to live? Then, we learned more about the different reproductive organs of plants and their jobs. Next, we did something we would NEVER normally do and chopped the heads of the tulips in half to look inside! Using our observation skills, we could identify all the different reproductive parts of the plant. Could you spot the sticky stigma inside a flower? What about the anthers that look like antlers?
