First News Geography Project!

Year 4 had a fantastic time last week, taking part in a project with students from the Institute of Education and Nicolette from First News, the UK’s best-selling newspaper for children. We received 100 copies of the latest First News, hot off the press before it was released to the general public. We looked through the paper, discussing our favourite stories and other interesting articles. Then we started thinking about the geographical aspects of the newspaper – which stories were about geography and why. After lots of discussion, we chose one of the stories to look at in more detail. Finally we began work on ‘re-presenting’ the story in whichever way we liked – as a news broadcast, a podcast, a poster, anything!

Click the link below for some of our ‘re-presentations’ – you can take a closer look at the materials and newspaper articles on display in our classes!
