Across the sea, Beowulf travels

Year 4 have been reading a version of Beowulf, an old English myth based in the Norse Lands. The children used drama to retell the hero’s journey to meet,  and fight, the terrible monster of darkness, Grendel.  In English the children have been learning about prepositional phrases and used freeze frames to help understand and capture these. Beowulf and his men went out of the sheltered fjords, across the North Sea, through the perilous waves and arrived onto the rocky beach, under the high cliffs of Hrothgar’s Kingdom. Can you guess what part of the journey each picture is showing?

Year 4 then used this to write their version of his brave and might warrior’s quest. Watch this space.
