Artist Visit

This half term in Year 4 we are exploring the historical and cultural developments of portraiture. We began by having a go at trying to order some famous portraits by year of creation. We noticed that more modern portraits were brighter in colour and also abstract.

We thought about reasons why this might be and noticed that both changes in technology and in ideas had affected how portraits are both created and perceived.

To help us with our exploration we were visited by artist Sarah Owusu, we paints abstract paintings of people who have made significant social or cultural changes. She told us that she wants people to feel happy when they look at her art, which explains her choice of colours, and also to learn something.

We will be learning more about the subjects of her portraits, because we believe her vision that art is education!
