One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab

This may be an unusual name for a book, but it is a counting-by-feet book, so that explains it.

We had a go at problem solving in Year 1 today and the problem was “If I see one foot on the beach, what animal could it be?” Easy, a snail. Two feet is a person, but what about three feet? Four is a dog, but what about five feet? So it went on and proved a great way to practise adding small numbers in different ways to find combinations of feet.

Have a go at coming up with different ways of making 12 feet using one is a snail, two is a person, four is a dog, six is an insect, eight is a spider and ten is a crab – it’s true, crabs have ten feet.
