Santa, the North Pole and… Global Warming!

Whilst getting ready for the Christmas Holidays, we started to think about Santa Claus, where he lived and what his habitat might be like.

Watching a short nature programme and looking at information books, we discovered that the North Pole is covered in snow and ice and saw the huge icebergs. We looked at the animals that lived their and realised Santa might see Polar Bears and seals but not penguins as they live in the South Pole.

We started to think about the fact that the planet was getting warmer and wondered what might happen to the North Pole. To answer this question we studied how ice cubes change in a warmer climate (our classroom) and decided we really didn’t want the world to get warmer as the North Pole would not be icy any more!
